October 11, 2007Houston Ballet’s Nutcracker Market Nov. 8 – 11
October 24, 2007One of the great things about living in Spring TX is its location. You can be in downtown Houston to watch a play, for a basketball game or a baseball game in 35 minutes, you can get to IAH airport in 20 minutes, you can be in the Woodlands for shopping or dining in 20 minutes, and you can be at Lake Conroe within 45 minutes. Lake Conroe is a 22,000 acre man made lake that was completed in 1973. One of the many attractions at Lake Conroe is the Southern Empress a replica of a Victorian 1800s era riverboat.
Recently over $1 million in improvements have been made to the Southern Empress and she is ready to show them off to you. The Riverboat is 131 feet in length and has three decks. Located on the main deck is the Empress Room, the dining room, with its floral carpets, brass bar rails, and swaths of lace it will bring you back in time to the 19th century.
After enjoying a romantic dinner head up to the Magnolia Room on the second deck for an evening of dancing. The Magnolia Room has a stocked oak bar, parquet dance floor, band stage, and an embossed tin ceiling. End the evening with a stroll on the third floor deck to catch a beautiful view of Lake Conroe.
The Southern Empress offers private cruises along with a Sunday Champagne brunch and evening cruises. The cruises are either two or three hours in length. The Riverboat is docked at the Sunset Harbor Resort at Seven Coves. Additional information on its cruising schedule may be located at the Southern Empress’s website.
Next time you are wanting to do something different for a change, take a cruise on the Southern Empress. It is just a short drive from Spring TX and will provide you with an experience you will remember for some time to come.
